I’m proud to announce that, this year again, I will be part of the official media team of the Hurley Australian Open Of Surfing in Manly from February 7-15th.
I’m sure this year will have some exceptional surfing on offer too with a really great list of top athletes coming to Manly:

Below a few of last years best shots to get you warmed up for the event.
This year I will be taking my Olympus E-M1 camera to the test and see how it well it’s suited for the action.
Olympus Australia is supporting me with a second E-M1 body and a range of lenses so I won’t miss out on a single shot.
If you don’t want to miss out on any of the action make sure to subscribe to the brand new SurfLove newsletter:

The OMD 5 – Mark II is out. and they dropped the price on the previous model. Do you think the new version will fit the same housing?
As a newbie, do you think the Mark II will have signicant image quality? this is my portfolio on Insta : http://www.instagram.com/amineV2
FYI: 10/10 on the new blog format/look…:)
Hi Amine,
Yes I had the honour to be at the launch event of Olympus Australia. The E-M5 II looks amazing.
I know for a fact that the E-M5 Mark II doesn’t fit into the same housing, but Olympus has made a custom one for it. However it doesn’t have the interchangeable port system as the PT-EP11 for the E-M1 has. It comes with a flat port and has quite a bit of space between the front element of the port and the camera body. So there is room for quite a few lenses.
The E-M5 Mark II is mainly aimed at a video market. If you want to shoot video, it’s probably the best camera out there. The image stabiliser on it is absolutely AMAZING! It has the same sensor as the first version E-M5 – so the image quality is very similar (slightly better) – The E-M1 still remains the flagship and still has the best image quality of the Olympus line.
If you are more of a stills person, I’d wait for the E-M1 Mark II as the sensor will be better and I think it will use the same stabiliser as the E-M5 Mark II and I can imagine the focussing will be improved too – so it should be a monster of a mirrorless camera! (PS I have no idea when it will be announced / released)
And thanks of course for the kind words on the new design. Glad you enjoy it 😉
Incredible information. Thanks so much. I called olympus and you have provided 20 times more valuable info than the rep on the phone..:)
noticed the marketing was targeted towards video..:) as of right now, as I want to just get in the water and get quality images, maybe better to just go for the EMD 1 as you have mentioned…:)
Thanks again for the valuable info. You rock!
I love your site as well. Its nice to see pictures for a change in a blog format rather than the insta feed. The design is too cool. Well done
Thanks Amine,
I’m sure the E-M1 will deliver the images quality you are looking after. I’m not sure where you are based but I offer one-on-one (surf) photography courses – you can get your hands on the E-M1 and the PT-EP11 housing before actually having to buy it and I will guide you and explain how everything works. Send me an email: chris@chriseyrewalker.com if you are interested.
